How to Relieve Menstrual Pain with Belly Dance

According to the statistics up to a 90% of women suffer dysmenorrhea, that is, menstrual pain. I am one of them but I’m learning why and getting rid of this pain step by step.

Belly dance has been crucial to relieve my menstrual cramps.

In today’s article and video I have a very clear goal: to help you relieve your menstrual discomforts through belly dance.

So if you are interested in the topic, keep on reading because I have a few more things to share with you.

Menstruation can be painful for many reasons and beyond those medical diagnosis and tags that are assigned to us, most of us have been raised with some preconceptions like “the period is painful” or “the period stinks” and many other stupidities.

In my opinion and talking from my personal experience, the period is painful because our culture is painful, because being a woman is painful. We are taught that menstruating is something that we should hide and this taboo doesn’t help us to make friends with our own blood, which is something healthy and necessary.

When did a natural and healthy physiological process started to be painful?

For example, peeing is not painful unless there is a problem. Then, what’s the problem with the period?

I’ve been already learning a few years about the topic and I’ve managed to decrease a lot my menstrual cramps. Thanks Erika Irusta for being my menstrual teacher.

Belly dance has been very important tool in this process of mine, since the moment I have to stand in front of a mirror and accept my body as it is, on top of the physical movement which helps my blood to flow and my womb to contract gently and yes, with some discomfort but without a big drama.

Today I’m sharing with you a short belly dance routine, easy and calm, that helps me a lot to reduce the pain. I’m not explaining in the video how to technically do the movements, I’ve done other videos for that, and I’ll record many more in the future.

My proposal is that from your own intuition and pleasure, you follow me in this 5 minutes of calm and you move your body without judgement, not trying to be perfect, just letting the pain go.

Would you let me dance by your side?

Play the video and let me know in the comments afterwards how was your experience.

And yes, when I recorded this routine I was in my period and a little bit in pain 😉

If you are one of the lucky ones with any menstrual discomforts, congratulations!. In any case I’m sure you know someone who will be interested in this article and video, would you help me to help more people?.

Share this article in your Social Media or with your favourite women, they will be grateful and me too!.

Hugs and dance,

Zahida.

Ps. The music I dance in the video is a composition by Natacha Atlas. Song: Le printemps.
