Move your hands like a pro bellydancer

Arms and Hands movement for belly dance is one of the most characteristics, and in my opinion it’s also among the most difficult ones to master.

Based on my own experience, hands along voice are very strong means of expression –I have a secret life as a singer, I’ll tell you one day. Every movement you do with your hands could enhance your dance or steal all the attention from the rest of your body.

I’ve been asked million times how do I do to move my hands on this or that way, how it seems so easy when you see it but it becomes so difficult when you try to bring that movement to your own body.

I’m not going to lie, the answer is: practice. But what you need is not only practice. There is also a lot of feelings, expressivity and technique. And learning the technique requires understanding how our muscles and joints work.

I’ve always said it and I will keep on saying it: dance starts in our minds and with practice and discipline we translate that mental idea into body movements to bring it to reality.

So, today’s video brings you one of the explanations I give most in class when it comes to hands movement. Please don’t get frustrated, it’s not easy. But also please, don’t abandon, remember that it’s possible.
