How to do the Bellyroll

When I was a little bit younger than now (I decided long ago that I’ll be young until the day I die), I was always jealous of those kids showing off their spontaneous learnt bellyrolls: “Look, I know how to do the bellyroll!”.

For them it was a very natural movement, learnt as a game, experimenting.

Then I joined some bellydance classes (that happened long ago as well) and realised the bellyroll was a very much used movement in bellydance. So I had to learn how to do it.

In today’s video I’d like to show you what are the steps for a proper bellyroll. From scratch. Even if you have never dance before.

Play it and start enjoying the bellyroll now.

I’d like to use this article to keep on working towards my mission in favour of the diversity of beauty.

BODY POSITIVE

It’s been a huge effort for me to show you my belly as it is: with its stretch marks, its fat, its jelly movement.

I might appear as a very secure person but I am full of complex. I’d like to continue fighting for a wider beauty standard, as I have been doing for a long time already. Yes, also in the dance world.

Today I’m showing you my belly, that belly that has been too many times pointed at as something to hate.

And I am showing it despite my own complex because I believe that dance, emotions and humanity should be above any imposed beauty standard.

I hope to be of any inspiration for you, if you didn’t dare yet to show yourself as you are. You have nothing bad, you are amazing.

As a dance teacher I am aware that with my classes, movements and steps I am giving away happiness pills. Sometimes dance feels like an oxygen bottle.

Every-body is able to dance. Everybody is able to dance

See soon you in the next video.

Warm hugs,

Zahida
