I’ve spent the last two weeks looking back to last year, and I’ve spent the whole year willing to give regularity to this blog, so here you have my two words for next year: ROUTINE and DISCIPLINE.
I’m not talking about routine in its negative and boring meaning, I’m talking about those routines that make possible to walk towards your goals, even against all odds.
– Would you like to learn how to play the finger cymbals? Then set yourself a rehearsal schedule and follow it.
– Do you want to master your shimmy? Then, what about getting in to a daily 5 minutes shimmy routine?
– Dreaming of being the Dance Floor Queen on Saturday nights? Well, you’ll have to visit those dance floors from time to time and dare to dance it out.
– What about spinning and turning without loosing track? keep on trying and training even when you are feeling dizzy!
Routine and discipline are two key words if you want to learn ANY technique. Sometimes we understand this words with a negative connotation but it hasn’t got to be this way.
DISCIPLINE is something that makes us walk when we don’t want to. We usually don’t want because we can’t imagine – and most of the time we don’t even try – what will happen in one week period.
What if we decide that by next year we are going to master all the figure eights?
What do you have to do TODAY to make that happen?
Don’t think too much about it, here is the answer: What you have to do is to set a rehearsal schedule and use your discipline follow it. So easy and so hard at the same time.
Dance gives you discipline, and discipline brings freedom.
Craving for freedom? Start dancing now.

Now is your turn:
What’s your word for next year? (it doesn’t matter if it’s not January, next year can start right now)
What are you going to do to make it your dreams happen?
Make it public and commit to your goal writing your answer in the comments.
I’ll be more than happy to read about it!
Hugs and dance,
Zahida
Ps: Not only belly dance has the power of discipline. This mechanism is the same for all kinds of dance and body techniques and, guess the next word… yes! disciplines.
