How to align your spine

You have been told many times about the importance of aligning your spine. But, what’s the meaning of having your back straight? What’s the meaning of having an aligned spine? And how can you do it? Check out this video.

This video and linked article are here to help you understand.

An aligned spine is that one that doesn’t hurt, that one that allows you to move freely, and also to hold a pose efficiently.

A healthy spine is the one that accompanies you in your path through life and makes movement easy and possible for you.

The concept of spine alignment is relative, subjective and individual.

CAUSES OF BACK PAIN

A very common spine problem is pain, and there are two main causes for it:

  • Lack of strength, flexibility or mobility – which are related.
  • Lack of body awareness.

It’s possible to live and enjoy a healthy back even with one minor deviation. We are all asymmetric to some extent and we all have our movement habits. In my opinion, the focus should be on raising our body awareness.

ELONGATING YOUR SPINE

In today’s video I’m only speaking about alignment in front/back terms, or what is known in technical language, on the sagittal plane. Play the video now.

On top of thinking about those body planes, it’d be interesting to visualise your spine as a very long one. Focus on generating that elongating movement.

Only with the though and the intention you are making space for your spine discs by activating your spinal muscles.

And now that you’ve watched the video, I’m looking forward to read your comment in the blog post. What’s your personal experience with your spine alignment?

If you have found this video useful or interesting, you will be probably interested also in a couple more of videos that are very related, specially if you suffer from back pain.
